The ‘Mone’ stays in the Extremadura First Division one more year. That is the certainty with which Monesterio has lived since yesterday afternoon, Sunday, May 8. A town that is already breathing easy after the yellow team achieved the long-awaited goal in Zalamea de la Serena in a sporting season that has not been easy for anyone. Players, coaching staff, management and fans have suffered until the last moment, threatened by the relegation nightmare of a couple of seasons ago repeating itself.
Only one could be saved. And football chose CP Monastery and evicted the CD Ilipense – Zalamea. The Eusebio Mata of Zalamea de la Serena witnessed the two sides of the same coin of this game of return of the second round for permanence in the Primera Extremeña. On the one hand, of the victoria, the joy and satisfaction of the yellow ones; and, on the other hand, of the uneasiness and the sadness of those who lose a tie at home and are forced to have a third and final opportunity to continue in the category.
The truth is that the goal advantage – achieved at the Municipal last weekend – with which the Monesterienses stepped onto the Zalamea grass helped the spirits of the yellow team. But the scene was set much better for Bielsa’s team with the goal that their captain Caliche scored in the 22nd minute. Although barely three more minutes passed when the locals managed to reduce positions and tie the game. They would soon manage, half an hour into the second half, to also tie the tie. Now, that last quarter of an hour of play would decide everything.
It was then that Raúl made it clear with his goal that CP Monesterio would continue to be, at least for another year, of First Extremadura.
